Oh, man, that really pushed the envelope. I'm very sorry for keeping you waiting again, but this was one of those "special effects" pages, and that white space is harder to get just right than you might think.

So! Another old mystery solved! The source of the "Magicgasms," an explosive phenomenon that plagued the magical community for some time. And now we know that the reason for them was excess magic pressure caused by the wizard shortage resulting from Harold DuVase culling a chunk of the population in the Magi-Net! And also that they somehow aided in Tomie's transformation from a book to a body. We furthermore learn the reason why Jack had taken up wandering during Zandra's absence, and his interest in prospective new wizards!

It's kind of weird, finally giving away all these little secrets I've been sitting on for so many years. Now what will I jealously keep hidden from humanity? Money? Kindness? My feelings?

All of the above?

Well, Mike, if you're lucky, maybe some of you will be left for Sandra to finish off, just like you wanted.

The effects look great! Does this mean Jack is going to be a vampire?

Hopefully not, it would be a weird twist to pull at the end like this. On the other hand, the immunity to demon mind fire might be tempting for him.

Anyway, didn't the vamp Betty chopped up in a tree say to the cop lady that to infect someone they had to swallow them whole or something?

Tomie is proof you don't need *multiple* books to qualify for "stacked".

That's some pretty nice whitespace...
In any case, it's good to see Jack has graduated from getting fried to doing the frying. I wonder, however: does he have a way to know one is coming? Does he have any control over it? As in, can he delay it for a while, or precipitate one?

I hope Mike isn't dead. He wanted to die, and at this point he shouldn't get anything he wants. Also he deserves worse than a quick end via being burnt to death by magic.

The way the background becomes plaid because of his magic surge (Jack the Plaid after all) is really cool looking. Having the effect shows that Jack is really kind of scary even though he acts like a doofus most of the time and was certainly worth the wait!

I'm ill in bed at the moment so I decided to read the whole comic again from the beginning as a way to pass the time. Wow, what a journey. The story, artwork and characters have matured over the years in all manner of good ways. I look forward to when the comic is posted each Sunday because it's just so darn good and I hope to be able to keep doing so for the foreseeable future.

Huh, so he's going around ruining people's lives (In his won words) just out of convenience? I thought his whole schtick in the park was a lot more altruistic.

And the magicgasms have saved him at least twice now, and brought Tomie to life

In Jack's defense, the Magicgasms, while occasionally useful, are more than an inconvenience. They're a painful, disruptive, and potentially dangerous (as Mike can attest) recurring incident afflicting an entire community. He's not just acting for his own sake.

Beyond that, Jack and his fellow wizards have an obligation to see to it that the transition to a magic-rich status quo goes smoothly. Their role in the world is transformative, involving countless lives over time. They were already going out and inspiring people on an individual basis, even before the Magi-Net incident. The Magicgasms simply called for them to take a more hands-on approach in recruiting people who are, on some level, willing to take what they have to offer.

Nestor, how on earth did you come to that twisted, nonsensical conclusion from what is on this page? Do you have a personal problem you need to talk about that you are instead taking out on Mr. England and his characters?

Oh, hey, it's alright. Nestor's just being honest, and I can't blame people for coming to their own conclusions. In fact, I can see where Nestor's coming from. I'm just glad that we have this comment feature nowadays and the opportunity to discuss these things directly. I often find it very useful to my own thought process.

Sorry Joe. Sorry Nestor. I get kinda protective about my favorite comics and characters therein, and end up "defending their honor" like they're actual people. I still think you're wrong, Nestor, but I may have a little overboard. Lo ciento.

So... Jack and Tomie are connected to each other. They both magic surged. Hopefully Yomie is oyt of the attic now. Also, from what little vampire lore we have, Jack is no danger of being vamped. Making a vampire seems to involve a lot more "ingestion" of the victim.

Overall, mike just sucked down some 100% pure raw magical energy. it is chaotic, uncontrolled and unpredictable. The effects could run from he returns to the "living" to being turned into a half dog/half oyster. or even becoming a powerless human that cannot die.

Fun times indeed

A Different Mike

In panel 3 we see Mike take his "oopsie!" drink. But in panel 1 we can see that Jack already has a bit wound in the left side of his neck and blood down his shirt. So Mike has already drained him a bit and he's been weak from loss of blood. Mike tries to drain him further, to provvoke "Suicide by Zandra", and ends up getting a different mouthful than he expected.

Still wondering if we'll find out anything more about "what's with Chalk?" before the arc, and the show, ends.

I am kind of hoping that as a side effect of the magical mystery blast Tomie gets a real voice and the ability to talk to people other than Jack.

(Kind of like what they did for Bumble Bee at the end of the Transformers animated series)
